October in Review...

Sewing:

Top L to R:  Blue peplum top, Vogue 9056; silk Katherine Tilton top, Butterick 5891; blue and black pinstriped knit skirt, OOP Butterick 5790; black ponte knit skirt, OOP Butterick 5790; black and white pleated top, OOP Butterick 5561; charcoal wool pants, Simplicity 2372.
None of these items were on my fall sewing list. Sometimes plans change.

RTW Fast:

The only ready-to-wear items that I picked up were undergarments, 2 pairs of panties and six pairs of tights. It is getting harder to find good quality cotton knickers and I really have to find a good pattern.

  1. I gave up on RTW knickers ages ago. Poor quality, not the style I wanted, and - biggest reason of all - poor fit. (Not necessarily the manufacturer's problem. I have a LOT of fitting anomalies.)

Rather than starting with a pattern, I just sort of/more or less copied the least-ill-fitting RTW pair I owned. About six tries later, I had my pattern. I am quite sure it would have taken me just as many goes as if I started with a commercial pattern. BTW, my pattern looks really weird, but it produces knickers that FIT.

I bet you like making your own!

  2. It's been 3+ years since I bought underwear, not too small jersey scraps are the best for this (it's amusing when you know your tshirt matches your underwear).
