Awesome-ness!

Little Drummer Boy is my favourite Christmas tune, but this version is pure awesome-ness.

In sewing news today...

Project Runway: The Final Five Episode! (we're a wee bit behind the rest of the world)

Ouch! The tension in the workroom is ruining the post-yoga vibe I have going on.

I wish there was a mute button for Jason. Just saying.

I also have to say that I loved the lattice work in Laura's dress--Wow! But Anya's designs did rock the episode! I love the angles on the dresses.

I was speechless at Anya's choices for who should go to fashion week with her--Victor and Jason? Seriously?

I won't spoil it and say who will go to Fashion Week in case anyone hasn't seen the episode.

I don't know if I'm really excited about see the rest of the season. It is a bit of a yawn. I don't know, another episode of Jason. Oiye!

New Fabrics!

There was a sale this weekend at Fabricland, I think I might have mentioned that.

Honest, the only reason that I went back on Sunday was to pick up snaps to finish off the baby onesie that I was making.

Light olive green corduroy
And then I spotted these lovely fabrics and that was it, visions of finished garments started floating around in my head.

The corduroy fabric is so soft and it has a beautiful drape. It is a cotton, nylon, and spandex blend. I picked up two metres of this for a skirt. It's a light-weight fabric that I think will make a lovely skirt for spring.
Cream / Off white silk

And this medium weight off-white coloured 100% silk I picked up thinking that it would make a nice jacket.

But then it would also be lovely for a dress too.

I do have some time to think about it since I still have several projects sitting in my sewing drawers waiting that I will have to finish.

That's is all in sewing news today.  Happy sewing!

Teddy Bear Soft

Weekend sewing project: McCall's 7367 Asymmetrical Jumpsuit (View A)

This jumpsuit pattern has to be my most used sewing pattern in my stash.

The corners of the cuff pieces are wearing thin from all the pin marks. I really must make a new copy of this pattern.

The fabric is a double sided terry / knit and it is the softest terry imaginable.

I decorated the jumpsuit with a iron-on applique. It is so simple to use, no stitching. Just remove from the package, press the sticky backing onto the fabric for about a half minute and then seal with a iron set on low.
Don't you just love the ribbon?

There are some cute ribbons to be found at Fabricland, lots of polka dots.  Luv polka dots!

In sewing news today...

Big Sale!

Sewing another baby onesie has been on my to-do list this weekend.

I decided that I should take the advice that was given and work with the blue double knit fabric. (Thanks for the feedback!)

I just had to head to my local Fabricland and pick up some ribbon and I was considering some yellow thread for top-stitching.

I became distracted once inside the store with the 50% off sale signs that hung everywhere.

I couldn't resist, could I?

I picked up this baby blue fabric instead. It is terry cloth on one side and knit on the other. But don't think scratchy terry, this is so unbelievably soft. I couldn't resist.

And since there was a 50% off sale going on, I picked up an applique.

Who can resist teddy bears? Seriously.

So much for using fabric in my stash. I'll have to get to stash busting another day.

Talking about sales...

Did you catch the Vogue / Butterick / McCall's pattern sale earlier this week?

Butterick and McCall patterns were on sale for $1.99, so I couldn't resist picking up this Butterick Vintage re-issue pattern.

It is in the mail, and I'm in no rush. There won't be a whole lot of sewing going on after I get the baby blue onesie off the sewing table. I'll have to put the machines back into storage until after the holidays.

But while at Fabricland I did happen to stumble across a floral print that I think would be fantabulous.

Again, I had no will power and resisting was pointless.

Can you believe that this dress only calls for two metres of fabric?

That's all in sewing news for today.  Happy sewing.

Holiday Preparations!

We're getting ready for Christmas around here.

This evening we were decorat- ing the tree.

I was quite happy that my decorations came out of storage this year. I guess you can say I'm a big kid at heart. I love my ornaments from vintage cartoons of my youth.

Curious George, Betty Boop, The Grinch, Fred, Barney, Wilma, and Betty (the other Betty) have a place on the tree.

The Flinstone decorations have to be my favourite.

I made these when I first moved out on my own and money was tight. They're made from a 100% cotton fabric that had the Flinstone characters on them.  I cut them out, stuffed them with batting and the other side is a black lining fabric that I serged together. But they also remind me of my favourite childhood cartoon that I used to watch with my dad. Yabba-Dabba-Doo!

Mama R doesn't share these fond memories and had banished them off from the tree. I might have to sneak one or two of them onto the tree on Christmas Eve. I don't think she'll notice with all the holiday visitors keeping her busy.

Help! (I could use some advice)

Yes, I was wrong. I guessed my co-worker would have a girl. She had a healthy baby boy.

That means that I have to get the sewing machine out of storage and start sewing a baby onsie fit for a baby boy.

I'm going to decide between orange with vanilla coloured sleeves or green knit with vanilla coloured cuffs.  Hmmm, now where is it?

Okay, so the orange and green knits are out of the race since I can't find which bin they are hiding. And if I want to go through an extensive search it would mean moving furniture and boxes.  Yeah, I don't think I'll be going there.

But I did come across some fabrics that might work. Or maybe not, I can't decide. Do you think polar fleece might work? It is winter in Winnipeg.

Or should I go with this blue double knit?

Help!, I could use some advice. Do you care to share your opinion? Anyone?

Children's Leggings: McCall's 7709

One more gift sewing project, the leggings, from McCall's 7709 .   I will have to give this a good pressing before I wrap this one up.  ...
