In Sewing News Today...

Yesterday, Carlos over at Vogue Patterns posted this incredibly beautiful version of Vogue 1642 on Instagram.

I would so wear that! And I stopped by my local Fabricland on my way home and searched out a beautiful floral from the Maduri silk collection, circa 2016, that is now in the discounted home décor section. I've been all smitten over this collection of fabric for quite some time and had picked up several cuts from this collection. I was quite shocked when the salesperson tried to tell me that the reduced price was $17.00 / metre instead of the $14.00 / metre I know it was priced at. Because the price tag was faded she tried to argue it was $17.00 despite the fact that I took her to the section I picked it up from and showed her matching fabric labels. I wasn't willing to debate with the same salesperson who recently gave me the wrong size for the pattern I ordered, even if the pattern error ended up working out for the pants. But I digress...

I wasn't willing to continue the debate and just decided to walk away, even though I was still smitten over the floral version that Carlos posted. I just decided that it wasn't meant to be and besides I have a black and white cotton tweed in my stash that will work just fine thank you very much.

And just as God works in mysterious ways, this popped out from the pages of my fabric locator binder.  I have a floral fabric in my stash and it has been there for years!

And it is even more perfect than the Maduri silk that I was thinking about yesterday. Isn't it beautiful how things work out for the best. I have a lot to be thankful for today.

The fabric is already pre-treated and ready to cut. So, on that note, I'm going to get to work.

Happy Sewing!

  2. I just made a muslin of this pattern---good thing, too. The description says loose fitting but not on me. And that insert in the front is very high. I didn't interface anything but there are so many layers of fabric around that zipper that it still came out too stiff. Certainly not ready for $17/yard fabric yet:)

    1. Oh wow, I just finished cutting out my floral fabric, thinking that a medium would be okay. Fingers crossed it will work out, I'm hoping for loose-fitting. I wasn't willing to pay $17/m and am going with something from the stash. I wonder if lining the insert and collar back instead of cutting it out of the fashion fabric would reduce the bulk?

  3. Mine was tight across the back shoulders and if you look at the envelope photos, the back shot shows the top stretching across the model's shoulder blades. I let out the raglan sleeve seams to barely 1/4" to give me some room there. The bust and the bottom edge were as expected except the total length was shorter than I visualized.

Can you baste your insert together to see how it feels?

    1. Thank you so much for the guidance and suggestions! I didn't note the stretching across the model's shoulders in the back view until you mentioned it. I do have enough left over fabric to cut a new back piece if need be, so I will take your advice and baste first. I did notice that it looked short and I did want the shorter version but I added two inches to the suggested length and I'm still not quite sure if I added enough. If need be I can give it a shorter hem than suggested. We'll see how that issue turns out as well. So far, I've only managed to work on the pockets and flaps, so far, fingers crossed, everything is working out.

    2. Hello Lisa, I just thought that I would let you know I'm sewn up to the point that I can try it on and there's no pulling in the upper back. There seems to be enough ease. I do have back issues and a forward sloping shoulder that might contribute to how it's fitting. But so far it's coming along. I did lengthen it but I'm going to shorten it back to it's original hem length. I hope to have it finished tomorrow.
