In sewing news today...

Put the pins down and step away from the sewing machine!

Today is not a day for sewing, a sleepless night doesn't help.

I tried but it just proved to be a bad idea.

It all started with the incredibly trying time to change the thread on the Janome serger. It is usually a painless task, but for some reason ...Yikes, ten thumbs! When did that happen?

In the horror of the moment I knocked over my thread hook onto the carpet. My ten thumbs were unable to successfully un-secure the thread hook that fell onto the carpet and became stuck. Mental note: purchase new thread hook.

And then when I foolishly tried to sew,the enormous size of my ten thumb blocked the view of the chalk mark on the bodice front. Yes, this is the opening to my latest seam ripper scenario.

That was enough signs to signal that sewing was not in the cards today. I can't hold a seam ripper in my hands, you know with all these thumbs, so I will leave that task for tomorrow.

New Fabrics!

Well, these fabrics are new to me, a super awesome deal found in the sale section at Fabricland earlier this week.

I absolutely luv-luv-luv this print and better yet it is a 100% cotton stretch! One of my favourite fabrics to sew! It has a medium weight to it. No idea what I'm going to make out of it but I picked up six meters of it and it's 150 cm wide. Maybe Vogue 2401 for moi? Or a dress for Mama R?

Also luv this lightweight 100% cotton stretch sateen in a forest green.

I know exactly what I'm going to make with this fabric, Vogue 8709!

The Marcy Tilton jacket (I think it is more like a shirt/top) is one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe right now. It was a fun pattern to sew and I can't wait to make another.

I even picked out the buttons!

I might have to squeeze in this project with the other eleven I have in que. I think there is some pre-shrinking in my new future.

Sew now what?

Hmm, maybe a movie?

All the talk about sixties fashions here and there in blogland and with the release of The Help this week. Maybe it is a sign? Okay, maybe not.

I suspect it may not have costumes as fabulous (my bias for 1940s styles is showing) as those in The King's Speech but I am interested to see what Costume Designer Sharen Davis created for this movie.

Who am I kidding, Sharen Davis did an awesome job with the costumes for Dream Girls, of course the costumes will be fabulous.

So I think I have convinced myself to see fabulous 1960s fashions and hopefully a good flick too.

  1. oohh..I hate it when I have days like that! Definitely not a day to sew. I'm very superstitious and when I start knocking things over or continuous things happen then I just walk away :) movie night sounds good! And I love the fabric!
